Matisse: 2015

Almost 3

Much of last 4 months has been a blur of tutus and classical music. Matisse is taking a "tiny tutus" ballet class and she LOVES it. She puts on a pink dress, tights, and ballet slippers almost everyday after school. She has even made up a couple of ballerina songs ("Ballerinas all day long" and "Ballerinas start to dance"). We took her to see The Nutcracker in December and she was mesmerized through the entire show - but when the curtain went down she broke down in tears ("I want those real ballerinas to keep dancing"). She used to ask periodically where the "real" ballerinas were and what they were doing ("What those real ballerinas doing?"). Matisse is still very independent and has been able to completely dress/undress herself for some time (except maybe for shoes, depending on the shoes). She knows ALL of the letters of the alphabet, and loves point out "M Matisse" and "Mommy's letter" or "Daddy's letter" whenever she sees a T or a J. Currently our favorite restaurant is "Nera" (Panera) where she enjoys "mato soup" (tomato soup with a baguette for dipping). Recently we have enjoyed reading the "Cupcake" book, and Matisse likes to make up jokes ("funny ones") related to the book ("Sweet potatoes on cupcakes?!? Eww!"). Matisse does not like to be left out of conversations, and exclaims "Listen to my words!" when she wants your attention. This was the first Christmas Matisse was aware of Santa, and instead of being excited about her dollhouse on Christmas morning she was more concerned about why Santa had moved her table, why he had laid down her stocking, and where he was.
